[Delve 52]
A downloadable game
Game Rhetoric
[Narrative]
Adventurer! You have found yourself in a harrowing situation, waking up in "The Cardgeon". Venture forth, clearing through the dungeon floors, and escape while claiming glory along the way!
[What You’ll Need]
The game only requires a standard deck of 52 playing cards, two d6 dice.
If you don't have access to any of the physical media, you can utilize search engines to provide virtual versions of the required resources
Here are a few free resources I can provide:
Standard Deck: https://www.calculatorsoup.com/calculators/statistics/random-card-generator.php
Dice Roller: https://www.google.com/search?q=roll+dice&rlz=1C1CHBD_enUS898US898&oq=roll+dice&...
[Setting Up The Game]
The setup is quick and easy! First separate the [Face] cards from the [Suit] cards into two separate piles. There should be a pile of 12 [Face] cards and a pile of 40 [Suit] cards
Lay down 3 [Suit] cards next to each other in a row and place 1 [Face] card down at the end of the row
Next, Pick a Delver! Each Delver has a special ability that changes up the way you play
- [Note] Delvers are towards the bottom of this page
[How To Delve]
Each card functions as a “room” filled with enemies to overcome!
First, roll 2d6 die choosing the [Action] you want. Once a [Action] has been selected, flip over the first card to enter the “room”.
When entering the “room”, your [Actions] goes first and then the [Enemies].
- [Enemies] are the varying amount of [Suits] on any given card
- A [Suit] is the symbol on any given playing card such as; hearts, spades, clovers, etc.
- [Enemies] attack by adding the number of [Suits] on the card and subtracting your health from that total. This is only negated by the value attributed to the [Defend] action.
- Each [Enemy] dies after being hit with 1 value of the [Attack] action.
After both the [Enemies] and your [Actions] are resolved, evaluate how many [Enemies] are still “alive” in the “room” and repeat the previous step until the “room” is completed! Once completed collect the card and move to the next, Repeating the steps until reaching the [Face] card, a.k.a the “Boss” card.
[Boss Rules]
(Currently) Bosses are simple yet a bit tricky to overcome. Depending on the color of the [Face] card, the boss’s rules change!
For RED [Face] cards, this “Boss” has 10 health and can only deal damage when hit with a value of an even number. When that damage is dealt it will deal the same damage back. The boss will also attack if you use the [Defend] action with an odd number value.
Black [Face] cards are the inverse of these rules.
When defeating a “Boss” you will have cleared a floor of the dungeon!
[The Goal]
The goal of the game is to defeat and collect 3 “Bosses” to completely clear a dungeon!
[Actions]
Roll 2d6 die and declare what [Action] you want to take. You have the choice of allocating the value rolled on the individual die, or combining the value and putting it towards the actions listed:
- Attack
- The value allocated from your 2d6 roll will determine how many attacks you make this turn.
- Defend
- The value allocated from your 2d6 roll will determine how many attacks you defend against this turn
- Use Ability
- Some abilities are changed or can only be used by certain values rolled and/or allocated determined by your 2d6 roll
- Use Equipment/Consumable
- Some items and equipment are changed or can only be used by certain values rolled and/or allocated determined by your 2d6 roll
Example: Before you flip the next card open and enter the room, you decide your attack strategy. Rolling a 6 and a 1 on the die, you combine your roll and allocate it to [Defend]. It’s a good thing too as the card flipped is a 10 of spades! Instead of taking 10 damage, you will instead only take 3.
